First grade thinks that the lessons that we already do in computer lab for first grade worked really well with what we are teaching them in the classroom. We started the year with a lot of short vowel activities were we would focus on a short vowel letter a week. Then we would cover activities that focused on social studies and science such as:
Matter, Astronomy, Animals, Long Vowel Words, metamorphosis, community, rules, citizenship etc.
We would really like students to get more familiar with just WHERE keys are located on the keyboard. There was a resource that we used at the end of first grade: ABCya.com that had this "keyboard" that was missing all the letters and numbers: students had to put the "keys" back on the keyboard. We found this really helpful especially when students are trying to sign in at the beginning of the year and find those letters in their name. (I know next year it will be different because K knows how to sign in!)
